Just In: President Akufo-Addo Likely To Go For His 3rd Term Without Any Election

According to TV3, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo is likely to seek re-election to the ECOWAS chairmanship without holding new polls. According to reports, this is the result of a sanctions on three francophone countries who were set to be the Chairman of the Organization of American States (OAS). Mali, Guinea, and Burkina Faso are the three countries that have been placed on the sanctions list.

Because of ECOWAS’s prohibition on the three countries as a result of the coup, they are unable to attend any ECOWAS meetings or offer their services for the Chairmanship. When it comes to the role of Chairman, the current Chairman (President Nana Akufo Addo) is legally entitled to take care of it until a decision is reached on the suspended countries. Akufo Addo’s third term as ECOWAS chairman is likely to be a unanimous one after he was re-elected for two times in a row.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is meeting in Accra to provide its support to the organization’s third mandate.. Again, they’ll make a judgment on the countries that have been affected by the coup detat and have been suspended ( Burkina Faso, Guinea and Mali).
