MSU Spartans Head Coach Tom Izzo Is A Winner Of Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award

Head Coach Tom Izzo and his wife, Lupe Marinez Izzo, have been married for almost 30 years. Meanwhile, Lupe has been the owner of the Rain Water Treatment Systems Dealership of Lansing for over 20 years.

Similarly, she is the Event Committee Chair of the Izzo Legacy Family Fund, which will host the Spartan Spring Football Game in April 2023.

Growing up in East Lansing, Lupe attended ballet and modern dance classes and performed with a massive troop of Mexican folk dancers.

According to MLive, she still enjoys dancing and is a “Dancing With the Stars” fan, rooting for her friend Erin Andrews, an ESPN sportscaster who is one of the favorites to win, in 2010.

Lupe had considered a career in theater and dancing (before her relationship with Tom). She chatted with her dad, as any good daughter would, and he convinced her that going into business was definitely a better option.

Tom Izzo and his wife, Lupe Marinez, both attended Michigan State University, while she is an East Lansing native. Likewise, she is the founder of the Izzo Legacy Family Fund. 

Lupe Marinez received the 1990 Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award as per her bio on Izzo legacy. in the State of Michigan for owning and managing the Rain Soft Water Treatment Systems Dealership in Lansing for more than 20 years.

The Tri-County United Way Campaign was chaired by Lupe from 2005 to 2006. She volunteers for and serves on the boards of several local organizations, including the Cristo Ray Community Center, the Greater Lansing Food Bank, the MSU Food Bank, Lansing Promise, and Holy Cross Services.

A native of Crystal City, Texas, Martinez Izzo, and one of her recent initiatives is Coaches Vs Cancer, an American Cancer Society-sponsored multi-year nationwide campaign.

Lupe and Tom Izzo have raised cash for St. Vincent Home for Children, as stated on IzzoLegacy. The Coaches for Kids initiative helped build Sparrow Hospital’s pediatric emergency unit. Both have also collected donations for their respective regional cancer centers.

In contrast, they established an elite basketball program at Michigan State University and have assisted the university in a variety of ways.

Their enduring attraction to the Lansing and Michigan State communities has kept them there for all these years.

Head coach Tom and his wife, Lupe, have been married for almost 30 years. The couple originally met while she was running a successful water-purifying business.

Similarly, before saying the official vows in 1992, the duo dated for a while. Three years later, he became the head coach at Michigan State. His club reached the Final Four for the sixth time in 12 years this year. They won the national title in 2000.

Furthermore, Tom and his wife, Lupe, are two years apart in age since she is 65 this year and he is 67.

Five years after their wedding, the Izzos welcomed their first child, Raquel Izzo, who is now 25 years old. The couple then adopted their son, Steven Izzo. 

Both are qualified in their fields, with her daughter being a certified make-up artist and her son, as a basketball player. 

Steven Izzo, Tom and Lupe’s adopted son, joined the MSU program in the 2019 season as a walk-on. Steven addressed his father about joining the team after graduating from Lansing Catholic in his junior year.

Rachel was raised in East Lansing, Michigan, whereas Matt was raised in Okemos. They formally “met” while attending St. Thomas Aquinas & Lansing Catholic High School.

After graduating high school, Matt headed to the University of Oregon, while Rocky enrolled at Michigan State. In their junior year of college, they reunited after several years and decided to be those crazy people who traveled long distances.

So, after seven years of friendship, they did just that for more than a year, which they claim to be one of the finest things for their relationship. Matt popped the question in front of Cinderella’s castle on May 25, 2019! And on July 9, 2020, they got married. 

Due to COVID-19, they were forced to alter their plans, and on July 25, 2020—their planned wedding date—they got married again.

Tom and his wife, Lupe, feel a true commitment to giving back to the MSU and Mid-Michigan communities that have become such an important part of their lives. 

They have been privileged to be a part of this community. Their deep sense of belonging to the community is one of the reasons they never left Michigan State.

She’s been privileged to be a little part of many different philanthropic organizations and causes that have done so much good in the town over the years.
