Sodomy teacher jailed 7 years for sexually abusing 18 pupils

Natomah Otabil, a social studies teacher at Kulpi Junior High Institution (JHS) in the Savannah Region, was given a seven-year term by a Tamale circuit court for sodomizing 18 students at the school.

The defendant was apprehended on September 27, 2021, after some victims’ relatives alerted Salaga police to a sodomy case.

The accused entered a plea of guilty and the case was sent to the Tamale circuit court for hearing.

However, the defense attorney requested a psychiatric evaluation, which the court granted.

A report of the medical examination performed at the Pantang hospital was then provided to the court, but the judge rejected it.

The Tamale Teaching Hospital performed additional testing, which was then presented to the court.

The accused was given a seven-year prison term with hard labor by the presiding judge, his lord Alexander Oware, at today’s hearing, which was conducted in secret.
