Who are The Members of Gossip Girl and What Do We Know About Them?

Gossip Girl was a teen drama TV series that ran on The CW Network from the 19th of September, 2007 to the 17th of December, 2012. The series, which was based on a popular book series of the same name written by Cecily von Ziegesar, followed a number of privileged Upper East Side teenagers, telling the story of their lives in and outside of school. Gossip Girl Cast Members and What Do We Know About Them

Blake Lively plays the role of Serena van der Woodsen, the main character of the show. The pilot episode of the series begins with her returning to New York after a mysterious absence.

Before her time as a cast member of Gossip Girl, Lively was best known for being Bridget in the 2005 movie, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Following the end of Gossip Girl, she has starred in The Town (2011), The Green Lantern (2011), The Age of Adaline (2015), and All I See Is You (2017).

Leighton Meester played Blair Waldorf, the on-and-off best friend of Serena van der Woodsen. Following the end of the series, Meester has gone ahead to appear in That’s My Boy (2012), Life Partners (2014), and Like Sunday, Like Rain (2014). She also appeared as Deborah Revere in the short-lived Fox comedy Making History. in addition to her acting career, the young girl is also a singer, songwriter, and model. In 2014, she released her debut studio album titled Heartstrings.

Penn Badgley played the role of Dan Humphrey, an outsider who later integrates with the Upper East Side inner circle after his father marries socialite Lily van der Woodsen. It is revealed in the end that he is the mastermind behind the famed Gossip Girl blog that was a mystery throughout the show.

Since his time on the show, Badgley has appeared in the films Greetings from Tim Buckley (2012), Parts per Billion (2014), and The Paper Store (2016).

Chace Crawford portrayed the character of Nate Archibald, the long-time boyfriend of Leighton Meester’s character Blair Waldorf who later becomes infatuated with Serena. After the series came to an end, Crawford starred as Billy LeFever in the short-lived ABC series Blood & Oil. He has also appeared in the films Undrafted (2016), Eloise (2017), and I Do… Until I Don’t (2017).

Taylor Momsen appeared as Jenny Humphrey; the younger sister of Penn Badgley’s character, Dan Humphrey. After the series ended, Momsen quit her career in acting to focus on her music. She joined the rock band The Pretty Reckless in 2009, serving as the lead singer and guitar player. Since then, the band has released three studio albums including 2016’s “Who You Selling For”.

English actor Ed Westwick played the role of Chuck Bass, a womanizer, and villain in the series. After the show’s ending, Westwick took up roles in Romeo & Juliet (2013), Freaks of Nature (2015), and The Crash (2017). The actor has further appeared as Victor Swan in the BBC-Netflix collaborative series, White Gold.

Kelly Rutherford played the role of Lily van der Woodsen, a philanthropist, and socialite who was also the mother of the show’s main character. Following Gossip Girl’s finale, Rutherford has had guest appearances on other popular series like Bones, Being Mary Jane, The Mysteries of Laura, Quantico, and Jane the Virgin.

Matthew Settle plays Rufus Humphrey, a former musician and loving father to Jenny and Dan who move to join his family in the Upper East Side. Best known for his role as Captain Ronald Speirs on the HBO 2001 miniseries Band of Brothers, Settle has also appeared in Ouija (2014), Marshall’s Miracle (2015) and The Faith of Anna Waters (2016).

Jessica Szohr plays the role of Vanessa Abrams, Dan’s best friend, and another Upper East Side outsider. Szohr left the Gossip Girl cast member list at the end of season 4 when her character moved to Spain. She, however, made a cameo in the series finale.

Since the end of the show, she has starred in several TV series like Complications, Kingdom, and Showtime’s Twin Peaks. She also appeared in films like The Internship (2013), 10 Cent Pistol (2014), Two Night Stand (2014) and Ted 2 (2015).

Kaylee DeFer portrays the character of Ivy Dickens, the estranged cousin of Serena who is also an aspiring actress and con artist. Since the series concluded, she has appeared in Layover (2012), the straight-to-video film Darkroom (2013) and as Casey in two episodes of CBS’ How I Met Your Mother. She has since taken a hiatus from acting and has given birth to two sons, one in 2013 and another in 2017.
