The introduction of education is one of the blessings that Africa got through colonization. Many people are often familiar with that of the Senior High School they attended, but what of the others? The top ten oldest senior high schools in Ghana are shown below:

MFANTSIPIM SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

The first school on the list is Mfantsipim School, which was founded by the Methodist church on April 3rd, 1876; the school’s motto is “Dwen hw3 kan.” “KWABOTWE” is the school’s nickname.

WESLEY GIRLS SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL


The solid alliance is apparent. Wesley Girls’ Senior High School is the second oldest senior high school in Ghana. The Wesleyan Methodist church founded it in 1884. “Live Pure, Speak True, Right Wrong, Follow the King,” said the Green and Yellow ladies.

GHANA SECONDARY TECHNICAL SCHOOL


The third school on our list is GSTS. The institution first opened its doors on August 9, 1909. “Mente et Manu (With mind and hands)” is the Red and White lads’ slogan. “The Giants/Tesco” is the school’s nickname.

ADISADEL COLLEGE


Adisadel Institution, the country’s first college, was founded by Anglican missionaries in 1910. “Vel Primus Vel Cum Primis (Either the first or with the first)” is the slogan of the black and white (zebra) boys. “Adisco” is the school’s nickname.

ACCRA HIGH SCHOOL


Moving ahead, Accra High School was founded on August 17, 1923. The school’s slogan is “Redimentes Opportunitatem.” “Ahisco” is the school’s nickname (hmm seems like a copy).

ACHIMOTA SCHOOL


The school of the President. The school first opened its doors in 1924. “Ut Omnes Unum Sint (That they all may be one)” is the motto of the black and white ladies and gentlemen. “Motown” is the school’s nickname.

KROBO GIRLS SHS


The school first opened its doors in 1927. The school’s motto is “Best for the Highest.”

ST. AUGUSTINE’S COLLEGE


In 1930, St. Augustine’s College was founded. “Omnia Vincit Labor (Perseverance Conquers All)” is the green and white’s motto. “Augusco” is the school’s nickname. Opoku Ware School is the first Catholic Senior High School, followed by St. Augustine’s.

ACCRA ACADEMY


Accra Academy is the tenth school on the list. The school was founded on July 20, 1931. “Esse Quam Videri” is the yellow and blue’s motto. “Little Legon” is the school’s nickname.

ABUAKWA STATE COLLEGE


Abuakwa SHS is the last school on our list. The school first opened its doors in 1936. “Susu Biribi” is the school’s motto. “Abusco” is the school’s nickname.
