Jose now plays for the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball (MLB).

He has been with several teams such as the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Angels, San Francisco Giants, and Pittsburgh Pirates.

In 2006, Jose turned pro in the Rookie-level Venezuelan Summer League (VSL), when he played for the VSL Mets.

He made his MLB debut in 2012 when he pitched for the New York Mets and New York Yankees organizations.

He later got signed by the Chicago White Sox and in 2016, became an All-Star.

In 2017 season, Jose was traded to the Angels and later to the Giants in 2021.

He made only five appearances for the Giants, posting a 4.66 ERA with 12 strikeouts.

In 2021, Jose signed a one-year contract worth $2 million with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

In 2022, Jose was traded alongside Chris Stratton to the St. Louis Cardinals for Malcom Núñez and Johan Oviedo.
