Top Supreme Court Judge’s Ex-Gratia causes massive Stir

Recently, the well-known Ghanaian politician and member of the NDC has done the unexpected by expressing tremendous disgust in the Akufo Addo administration and exposing another prominent Supreme Court Judge in the highly anticipated Ex-gratia scandal.

In a recent interview on the most anticipated “Good Morning Ghana” program on Metro Television, Dr. Randy Abbey stated that Article 71, which highlights the payment of the contentious Ex-gratia, should be revisited.
“I have yet to encounter a jurisdiction in the civilized world where people work for four years before learning their terms of employment. I don’t know where it’s created besides Ghana… For the judiciary, High Court, Appeal Court, and Supreme Court Judges have tenure security and retire at age 70 based on the Supreme Court, however we pay them Ex-gratia every four years for their work, claimed Randy Abbey.

Regarding this, Sam George courageously stepped up to expose another high-ranking Supreme Court judge who, he claimed, got Ex-gratia every four years while retiring on his pay, however, curiously, the NDC member did not provide the judge’s name.
Tobge Afede was not treated fairly. I am aware of a Supreme Court judge whose Ex-gratia was GHC 4 million and who retired on his salary, just like the President, but the majority of Ghanaians are unaware of their pay. Due to Article 71, they receive an Ex-gratia every four years”, Sam George stated decisively.
