Stock worked as a professor of philosophy at the University of Sussex before her resignation. She is at the center of a row over her opinions on transgender rights and gender identification. In recognition of services to higher education, Kathleen was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in December 2020. She rejected the claims and revealed that she would be leaving after a difficult few years and a horrible time. The University also defended Katheleen and said its staff have the right to say and believe what they think, reports BBC.

An Instagram account representing trans students at the university posted that it is a massive win for the Sussex LGBTQ+ students today.
